From the beginning Malawi’s Pizza has been purpose driven. Co-Founder, Blake Roney’s vision to help feed some of the most vulnerable children in the world inspired our Meal for Meal exchange program.


For each meal purchased in one of our restaurants we donate a nutritious meal to a child in Malawi, Africa.


Since our inception we have donated hundreds of thousands of meals to children in Malawi. You can visit one of our restaurants and not only enjoy a wonderful experience but also feel good knowing that you are contributing to a truly meaningful cause.

Malawi’s Pizza – Pizza with a Purpose® leased 5,000 square feet in The Village of Spotsylvania Towne Centre in Fredericksburg.

Wednesday, July 27, 2016 – Fredericksburg, VA – The Church Restaurant Group, LLC announced today that coming Fall 2016, it will open the first Malawi’s Pizza – Pizza with a Purpose® franchise on the eastern seaboard. The fast-casual gourmet pizza restaurant will be located in The Village of Spotsylvania Towne Centre in Fredericksburg, its first of five locations in Virginia.

“The cuisine at Malawi’s Pizza – Pizza with a Purpose® is fresh and chef-created,” said new franchise owner, Patrick Church. “We are truly excited to bring this unique dining experience to the greater area of Fredericksburg. We are also thrilled to be part of the charitable aspect of the business.”

Malawi’s Pizza – Pizza with a Purpose® is a fast-casual dining concept offering gourmet pizzas, pastas, salads and desserts served with the freshest ingredients all within minutes of ordering. For every meal purchased at a Malawi’s Pizza restaurant, a nutrient-dense meal is donated to a child in Malawi, Africa, through its Meal for Meal® Exchange Program. There are currently three Malawi’s Pizza restaurants in the U.S., which have provided more than 767,079 meals to children in need.

The Malawi’s restaurant in Fredericksburg will be located at 1 Towne Centre Boulevard and will open in Fall 2016.

‘Pizza with a purpose’ chain to expand to Houston, Dallas


The latest entrant in Houston’s fast-casual pizza market has a prominent philanthropic focus. Malawi’s Pizza, which currently has three locations in Utah, is planning its first Texas locations. According to its website, the company will open its first Houston location in the Sienna Plantation master-planned community, at 8731 Highway 6 South in Missouri City. Its first Dallas-Fort Worth location will be 5757 Main St. in Frisco.


The Houston Chronicle reports that another Houston location is planned for the Central Square office redevelopment at 2100 Travis St. in Midtown.


Malawi’s plans to open more than 20 Houston-area locations and hopes to open four of them by 2017, according to the Chronicle.


The locations will be 4,500 to 6,000 square feet. The Weitzman Group’s Doug Hermann, Ed Heap and Randy Hopper are representing Malawi’s in Texas, the Chronicle reports.


The 5-year-old chain’s tagline is “Pizza with a Purpose” because the company donates a meal to a child in Malawi, Africa, for every meal sold at its restaurants.


The company’s branding and restaurants — which feature a replica of an acacia tree — are reminiscent of Africa, but the menu offers familiar pizza combinations, pastas, salads and dessert pizzas.


Houston’s fast-casual pizza market heated up in 2014, as newcomers entered the Bayou City. Several chains that expanded in or entered Houston over the past couple of years have offered a “Chipotle-style” dining experience, in which customers customize their meals assembly-line style.
